In response to the recent 2011 Safety Perception Survey and to reach our goal of a “world class” safety organization, the District is kicking off the Safety Training Program Improvements Project (STPI) to improve the existing safety training program. The project will be completed in two phases and implemented during FY12 and FY13.
The District has retained Environmental and Occupational Risk Management, Inc. (EORM) to support this effort. EORM was selected by a Committee comprised of staff from Engineering, Safety, O&M, and HR, based on their past project experience. EORM has successfully developed similar safety training programs for both public agencies and private corporations. With this important project underway in November, some near term project activities you may expect to see include: consultant led staff interviews to assess safety training requirements by job classification. The consultant will also perform site visits to observe various District field operations and conduct job hazard analysis, where needed. EORM will also help develop a “Train the Trainer” program to expand our in-house safety training capabilities. This is an important project that will have lasting and positive impacts for everyone at the District. Your assistance and participation will be critical to the project’s success and make our workplace safer for you and your co-workers.
