Retiree Jim Talley Doing Well in Oregon
Nearly 90 years old, give him a call and say hello

We received a phone call recently from CCWD Retiree Jim Talley. He worked as a complaint inspector for the District, and retired in 1991.

Jim is living in Beaverton, Oregon, close to the headquarters of Nike, and is nearing his 90th birthday.

He suffered a heart attack on July 1st, but will soon undergo bypass surgery. Despite the setback, he said he's walking three miles a day and would love to hear from CCWD employees and retirees who worked with him. You can call him at (503) 716-8435.

Having Mortgage Problems?
You Are Not Alone, the Federal Government Has Programs To Help

This is the government's new program for mortgage assistance. It is available at the U.S. Dept of Housing and Urban Development website..

In top left column, the "Financial Stability" link takes you to "Making Home Affordable Modifications." You answer four questions to discover what assistance you qualify for, such as "Is your home your primary residence?", "Is your first mortgage equal to or less than $729,750?", etc.

Look here for a brochure on Delta Diablo Project.

DEPARTMENT MANAGERS MEETING

Feb. 16 , 2012

Safety Issues

Pete Schoemann reported on the contaminated soil clean up at the In-N-Out Burger job site.  District crew did a thorough clean up of the soil which was analyzed and determined to be contaminated with hydrocarbon.

Brett Kawakami reported on a recent injury at Bollman WTP.  An employee sprained an ankle on the edge of a non-slip floor mat, due to the mat height being higher than the flooring.  To prevent similar injuries in the future, the mat will be timely replaced with a less hazardous alternative.

Leah Orloff has a compiled a list of Safety Committee members who will be responsible for communicating Safety Committee proceedings to all District staff.  A memo informing the process for safety communication will be attached to the list which will be distributed to all employees.  The intent of this action is to ensure that every District employee has an opportunity to receive communication from the Safety Committee, and communicate safety concerns out to them.

Pete Schoemann informed of the need to find replacements for retiring Safety Committee members.

Steve Welch reported that the safety clock was stopped at 145 days due to a back injury.  The employee was engaged in manually turning a large valve.  It was noted that recent injuries have typically been due to repetitive motion, which can be preventable.  Staff are encouraged to focus on those type of potential injuries.
